Hanging while trying to download in OE

We seem to have a recurring problem. While attempting to download e-mail our
XP system hangs. The point at which it will hang is always the same. We've
been told how many e-mails are there and the size of the packet. At that
point there seems to be a little communication between us and the mail
server and then nothing. A reboot after closing Outlook Express and closing
the connection is the only thing that will clear the little connection icon
from the "notification area" and free up the system. Your help in solving
this very frustrating error would be appreciated. The weirdest part is it
doesn't do it all the time, just most of the time.

Allan,
If your Email service has web access, try checking your mail messages there. You may have a corrupted message in your mail service's Inbox that is preventing the download. First create a mail folder there for storage, then delete any messages that you do not want to download to OE from the Inbox, through the web page interface. Close the web interface. Try downloading mail through OE. If OE still hangs, then go back to the web interface for the mail service and move the messages from the INBOX there, to the folder that you created. Then try moving a single message in the inbox and have OE download the message.

Another thing that you can try, is increasing the timeout for the mail acct that you are having problem with.

In OE> TOOLS> Accts> Mail Accts tab> Select effected acct> Properties button> Advance tab> Move the slider for timeout to 4mins 30secs.
