My computer has started hanging without warning and when
im using a host of different programs (ie it isnt just
one program). I can find nowhere that will tell me why it
hangs up and i can do nothing but restart the computer.
i have formatted, changed my hard drive, changed my ram,
and after a few days of running smoothly the problem
returns.
Can anyone help me please?

There are many reasons a computer hangs. Some relate to
the computer itself while others are the result of
viruses, spyware, etc. Without an error message or some
details regarding exactly what you're doing when the
machine hangs it's difficult to home in on the source of
the problem.

You do not mention the methods you use to protect your
computer so, in lieu of specific advice, here's some
things to think about.

Are you behind a firewall? If not either activate the one
that comes with XP - run Help and Support and
search 'firewall', or download Zone Alarm.

Have you installed all applicable Microsoft updates?

Do you have a good anti-virus program that you update and
run weekly? If not there are on-line scans available at
http://security.symantec.com
http://housecall.trendmicro.com
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/
http://www.bitdefender.com/

free trojin scan

Go to Google and search for both 'Ad-Aware' and 'Spybot'.
Update and use both every day or so.
