Hang-ups

Windows has been hanging up on a daily basis for some
time. It does not seem to matter what application is
running and it appears that the hang-ups are random. The
only way to get round this is to switch off and on again.
I have virus protection which is kept up to date and
system scans show no viruses. I have also used the
Symantic web site to check my computer and it also shows
no viruses, worms etc.
I was thinking that there might be conflicting software
however I don't know how to find out what could be
causing it.
Any ideas?

The Hotfixes listed below might need to be removed to fix
the freezing problem.
