Hang on right mouse click

I get an everlasting hourglass when I right mouse click
on a desktop icon or a folder in Windows Explorer. If I
Ctr-Alt-Del in Explorer I can end the program and get
going again. The desktop icons require a reboot.

When I reinstall Windows XP Pro, right mouse clicking
works fine. When I install Service Pack 1 it works fine.
But when I install the rest of the "Critical Updates" the
problem occurs.

I am using the very latest drivers for my Microsoft
Intelimouse Optical, my ATI Radeon 8500 AGP graphics card
and my VIA/Athlon based motherboard.

Any help would be appreciated.

There was a user feedback that uninstalling hotfix 821557 solved the
problem.

Thanks for the input. I first tried the
Appearance/Effects trick but it didn't work. I then
looked for hotfix 821557 but couldn't find it to
uninstall. After uninstalling my hotfixes one at a time I
found that hotfix KB826939 was the culprit. It says it is
a compilation of other security updates. I reinstalled
all the other critical updates and everything is still OK.

Again, thanks.

Hi Marc,

Glad you got it working.

BTW, the hotfix 821557 is a included in 826939 rollup pack. It is advisable
that you install all other security patches except 821557.
