Hi,

I know this subject has been approached several times, however I am continuing
to have problems, recently purchased Halo for pc and the game will
spontaneously
quit or sometimes even reboot. I'm running an ATI 9200, with AMD 2600+ and
attempted to downgrade my driver to the recommended version catalyst 3.0
2003, however when I attempt to install the said driver I continue to get an
INF message stating unable to install video driver then another message
asking me to load a VGA drive from setup. I have no idea what to do? Maybe
something simple but I haven't a clue?

Thanks for any help.

It's part of the automated installer for the ATI driver. I've observed that
their automatic installation program for the older version drivers displays
the message when there's no display adapter present. What the message is
saying is that after you remove the old driver and reboot you still need to
have the generic VGA driver loaded before the install program will work. So
after the reboot let windows load the basic VGA driver.

Another option is to just manually install the driver by pointing at the
..inf file in the c:\ati folder or whatever folder the executable extracted
the files to.

Regarding your initial problem. Reboots are usually caused by a system
crash or faulty power supply. The Athlon XP was rather power-hungry at the
time it was released and somewhat sensitive to power fluctations. If you're
using less than a name-brand 350 watt power supply (Enermax, Sparkle, PC
Power&Cooling, Antec) it might be a source of investigation for your
problem. Another thing to consider is whether you're running the latest
chipset drivers for your motherboard [which controls the AGP slot, memory
controller, etc on the motherboard].
