Halo Problem

I just bought a copy of Halo and installed it with no problems. However,
whenever I try to actually play the game, a message appears saying 'Please
login with administrator privilages and try again'.

There is only one account on my PC and that is most definately an Admin
account. I have tried making another account with admin privilages but it
still does not work. As a related note, I also get this problem when I try to
use Windows Update (it just says that I can't use the site because I am not
an admin).

I think this might be to do with the last time I had to re-install WinXP.
The code that came with it had expired and I had to get a new one by ringing
up some number it gave me. In all the other installs I have had this problem
has not occured once.

Any help is gratefully appreciated.

Hi Waterz99,

If you're able to reinstall Service Pack 2 using either your existing administrator
account or the new one you've just created, that should allow you to correct the
permissions on your Files, Folders and Registry and allow you to install Halo.

I have just tried doing that and the problem still persists. Is there
something manual that I must do to fix these perrmissions, and if so what
must I do?

Hi Waterz99,

Your best solution would be to repair Windows using these instructions:

How to repair Windows XP:
Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows:
using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,
plug back into your Internet connection and install all Critical and

Arg! Now I feel like crying.

The game still won't start, I can't use Windows Update and I can't repair
my install of XP!! Have I reached the point at which I need a new copy?

Hi Waterz99,

A fresh install would be in order if you're unable to repair the current
installation of Windows. Do you get an error when you attemt a repair?

Jimmy S,

Well, I followed the instructions in that guide, and when the list of
current installs was shown it said that my second hard disk (labelled F:) was
my C: drive, and my first hard disk wasn't present. When using the Recovery
Console, I can't run a bootcfg /scan command, it just gives me an error (I
assume this occurs because it's confused about my drives).

I think also that my copy of XP may be lurky, as when I tried installing it
