Halo 2 problem

I just installed Halo2 onto my sons PC, and am having some trouble. When the
game starts, it does a cutscene to where you are supposed to calibrate by
looking at the dots. When the control is returned to you, the scene
automatically drops to the floor and starts rotating quickly to the left (I
believe, can't remember for sure). When I move the mouse to look up, does
until the mouse stops moving on the desk, and then it drops back down (but
the spinning never stops). When I played this a couple of months ago on my
computer, I had no problem. Yes, I updated the graphics driver. My computer
uses a nVidia card, while his is an ATI. Anyone have any ideas?

Yes I don't think Halo 2 works on XP... From what I've heard it doesn't
work

It *is* Vista-only, so assuming OP is running XP because they posted in an
XP group, they might have mis-spent their money. There may be hacks on the
Net somewhere, but I daresay MS would frown on them rather...

If, on the other hand, ultralabrat has Vista, he/she should repost in the
Vista games group.

Ignoring those who said it doesn't work on XP, since it does, let us go on.
[For those who don't know: There is a procedure you have to go through, like
copying a couple files from your CD to the Windows/system32 directory... I
don't remember them at the moment, but it is available on the internet
(utube).]

Now as to your actual question, I don't know the specific answer (I might if
I were in front of your son's computer, but I'm not) so let me give you a
couple things to check.

I am going to presume the software is the same, except for the difference in
video cards. Let's look at the problem of rotating. I had this problem on
X-box before and it was a bad controller. While your son's mouse may be
working fine for other programs, the game may be looking for the mouse to be
on a certain port or something. Try the mouse in a different port (if usb)

Next idea: Try a different mouse if you haven't already, and by that I am
thinking of even switching ports and/or types... If both are usb mice, try a
different port. If you have one of the older mice with the small round plug,
try turning off the computer and switching that for USB. (USB things can be
plugged or unplugged with power on, by the ones with the round plug cannot be
as it is dangerous to the system.

If switching the mice didn't help, and you have already tried reinstalling
(something I would try), then go to utube.com and search for halo 2 xp
(IF it is win xp)
look at a couple of the install videos people have put there and find the
names of those files you need to copy so you don't have to leave your CD in
all the time.

Hope these tips helped you.

Well, since you're referring to me (without quoting me), why not refer to my
comments in full?

I said, "There may be hacks on the Net somewhere."

You say to ignore me because "There is a procedure... available on the
internet".

Is there some subtle difference I'm missing here?

Oh, and congratulations on your swift response to the OP - it only took the
best part of four months.
