At a guess Valve have decided that sales might be adversly affected if FX
card owners can't run the game properly so they have delayed the launch to
allow the code to be re-written.

Gabe had too many BigMacs while Valve were out having lunch and got stuck in
the door on his way out, trapping the entire development team inside.
They are still in there as far as I know. Don't worry though, they won't
starve.
