When I try and log on to the machine the second file that
is loaded is the hal.dll file and the error message
is 'windows 2000 can't start because the following file is
missing or corrupt - please re-install a copy of the above
file.

The problem is that I can not access the hard drive. If I
boot from the disk drive or CD drive I can only see those
drives and have no access to the hard drive. When I run a
system diagnostic test I see all the drives and when I
look at system information I see all of them but I can't
map to the hard drive. What does hal.dll do?

Thanks
Anne

Boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup disks to start the repair
process.
