Please help! I'm running XP Pro, NIS2004, and Symantec Deep Sight Etractor. About 2 weeks ago I recieved massive numbers of NIS program control messages stating "A remote system is attempting to access your computer." I have blocked them all. I keep all my Windows and NIS up to date at all times. Everything is configured correctly. My antivirus comes up clean. They're Deep Sight Extractor (sucks, by the way) is no help. I have tried working with this only to find out that every IP does not respond to tracing. I have also gone to various free web scans, of course they come up clean too. Are these hackers? Do I have a hole somewhere? I am getting very annoyed by these hits!!!!! Please any suggestions?

sourappletart,

Providing your PC is up-to-date which you say it is, and
that Norton NIS is setup and running. Then you don't
need to worry about these problems.

Bascially it works like this, the firewall is taught not
to respond when someone tries to access an un-authorized
port on your computer. NIS is simply reporting that fact
that someone has tried to access a specific port. NIS
will have given the response that the port doesnt exist
back to the attacker. However it still reports it to you
the user.

What tends to happen on the internet is wanna be hackers
(normally called script kiddies) get tools that can scan
large amounts of computers one after another. Your
computer probably got tested as part of one of these
probes.

But seriously, if your up-to-date and you have visited a
website like grc.com which say's all you ports are
blocked, do not worry about it.

Also you can select the "Do Not Show Again" checkbox on
the alert if they are really bothering you.

Hope this helps

I forgot to mention that everytime I block the attempts, I check the little box to always use this action. NIS pops up with another attempt with the box still checked. I try to create new rules on my frewall, but they still come back. Anymore suggestions? Thanks in advance.
