Hacked HOSTS File?

Redirects IE to uncommanded sites. Replaces default home
page on launch. Eventually displayed an announcement "If
you see this page your hosts file has been hacked"
with "instructions" on how to delete lines from the
registry, delete winlogon.exe, and delete entries from the
HOSTS file. What's the real remedy?

Try running this http://software.brown.edu/dist/w-cleanqhosts.html

Please report back your findings.

Hi there, I just wanted to thank you: I took advantage of your suggestion
and I definitely fixed my PC troubles.
For reference, see "HOSTS file" on Dec 13th @ 18:27.

Grateful for the link to a fix. It appears to have fully
restored control. I could find nothing re QHOSTS at
McAfee...

Hi Tom,

You're most welcome, Symantec (Norton) has a write-up:

Regards and feel free to post back if we can help you with anything
else.

Season's Greetings!
