I have win 2k with sp 4 installed on 1.5 gHz Intel , 512 k memory, 120 gig
H/D.

I updated and installed current drivers for scanner and it works ( only one
time) on fresh boot. When i shut down and reboot. the scanner is not
recognized. This is very repeatable ! Also have digital cam card scanner
on buss as well as USB modem, persono headphones ,and optical mouse. The
other devices give no problem.

Any kind soul out there willing to give some help??

thanks

If you unplug the scanner from the USB port when the O/S is fully booted,
and then plug it back in, does anything happen?

What about if you unplug it before you reboot, then plug it back in after
reboot?

These answers will narrow down your problem a bit.

Yes . There is an error message about scanner not found in registry (
error 19 )

Same as previous question. ---------------------------------

I took all references to HP out of regestry and reinstalled software
under win 98 ( from original mfg disk)
Seems to work fine as I rebooted 4 times and was able to scan okayeach time.
I am gunshy about installing drivers under win2k ( this is a dual boot
system) .Should I just use the updated drivers for win 2k from the HP
website.?

Thanks again

Microsoft actually recommends a system restore (Win ME and XP) or a repair
(Win 2000) to fix this error code. To avoid this, you might be able to
simply reapply SP4 and repair some of your OS files that way.

I have an old HP 3100 USB scanner and have hated the drivers for it since I
switched to Win2K. I would always recommend using the latest drivers UNLESS
the ones you have are working fine. Since yours aren't, try the updated
ones from HP.
