Just wondered what others paid for Gym Membership?
That's of course if you go to a gym?

Never have, never will.

I think gyms are a rip off they tie you to a 12monthly contract knowing full well most of the time you wont be able to make it due to other commitments.

I've had experience of a friends parent dying. They tried to cancel the gym membership but was met with the gym demanding a death certificate.
Eventually he told them to shove it cancelled the DD. Two months later the nice postman delivered a letter too him from the gym informing him of their intention to sue....

I belong to a gym here in the states that's only $10 a month, so I don't feel all that bad about not going as often as if I were paying more. Though I've heard it's the same problem trying to cancel here too.

Never been a member of a gym. One of my daughters joined up at what seemed a hefty price only to find that her job required her to move elsewhere. She only managed to get a couple of months out of it and the rest of the 12 months, for which she was still paying, was wasted.

She wasn't allowed to transfer her membership to where she had moved to despite the same company having a gym there. She was very annoyed about it and never ever rejoined. Not a sensible policy on their behalf.

Don't pay for one. My work has a contract with Virgin so we all get free membership :D

Want to keep fit join the ROYAL MARINES, they have the nicest of PT instructers and after a lovely romp on Woodbry Common they give you a nice green beret to wear:lol: Oh and they pay you whilst you are keeping fit:thumb:. They also offer on the grey line ships cruses to exotic places and free airline tickets to faraway countries. Up The Jollies:cheers:

Been a member of 2 different gyms, paid a year in full both times and saved myself alot of monies, dont have time now Theodore is around so at the current gym I go to its either £5 a session or buy a card for £25 which lasts 10 anytime sessions with no time limit on usage so I buy the card ^^

It's over Dartmoor these days bootneck and only 30 miles in 9 hrs (8hrs for Officers).

Can't see the point in using gyms, if you're able bodied enough to use a gym then you're able-bodied enough to use your own body to keep fit.

Have a word with a Karate or Martial Arts instructor and he or she will outline all the exercises you can do that will give you the same benefits as all that expensive gym equipment, sit-ups and press-ups being the most obvious.

The other thing you need to keep fit is a pair of legs and some good footwear. Go walking or light jogging, very good for the body and probably for the soul.

There's also swimming and riding a bike, to my mind much more enjoyable than working up a sweat on some automated multi-thousand piece of equipment.

I will concede there are some advantages to using a gym - discipline being the most advantageous. Lots of folk probably don't have the inclination or self-discipline to do any of the workouts I've outlined above but once they've paid out for a gym membership or entrance fee, bought all that overly expensive designer gymwear and are in the company of fellow fat gits, er, sorry, figure conscious hard working individuals ;) they are going to exercise. Cos if they don't they will look and feel silly.

And there's also the pose consideration. All them fellas wearing gym clothing that's especially designed to show all their three piece suite off in the finest detail, in front of all them lycra-clad ladies. My goodness

There's only so much a pull up or press up can do, if your into getting stronger/more muscular then your going to need the kit/weights regardless. I've seen some pretty impressive results without weights, but much better with.

Also its a good place to meet and make friends or hang out with your existing friends

Paid about £20/month a few years back (Fitness First) - but that was a good deal at the time, I seem to remember it was half price. £30/month+ seems to be about the norm for a chain gym (my brother in law pays about £40 at the moment).

Got a friend who goes to a community gym for about £12/month, including pool use off-peak. Seems like a very good deal!
