I run a dual boot Win98/Xp, Athlon @ 715mhz, with Msn 8.5 (still waiting on
9cd).
I have all system sounds turned off in both Win98 & Xp & Msn. I still have a
baRooom musical sound when I sign in to connect to Msn. I have searched for
months how to get rid of this sound. Is there anyway possible to track this
sound
down and kill it? Thanks for any advise

Search the MSN directory (where it installed) for files with .wav extension.
You'll probably find it in there somewhere. Delete it, or rename it. You
might also find it in a system folder such as c:\windows\media. You might
have to play a few files to find the one that sounds like the one that is
bothering you. Then delete it or rename it.

Another option (might be easier, but might reset itself) is to do control
panel, sounds, sounds tab, then scroll down the list until you find the
"MSN" section. Set the appropriate sound to "NONE". -Dave

Been there, done that. Still got sound. I have even deleted all wav files,
and still get this sound (msn signin). Like I said GURU needed ;-) Thanks
for the effort

MSN and GURU cancel each other out. No 'guru' type would ever use MSN (or
AOL).

Turn off your speakers.

Your cross-posting was a little excessive; followups have been set.

R U kidding, Third tier tech support are dumb as rocks. He was arguing with
me
about it was not possible to have dual boot of win98/Xp. Morons
You should ask at MSN support.

A program can do anything it wants. If it wants to make a sound windows can't stop it. Most peole who answer questions here don't use MSN (we know alternatives to paying to be advertised to).

Guess you & Nosleep just have no idea
how to help anyone, couple a little kids
on daddys computer. I'll do myself a favor and killfile both of you. Now you
both can ****off together. LOL

Yes, Msn Messenger is loaded. I have it setup for auto login. I have all
alert sounds unchecked. I have been searching everything I can find on the
net for 2 months and have tryed all suggestions,
so far no change. Thanks for your time
