Guides in User Created Template

I have designed a template for an organization that
includes several guides that are necessary for the users
to align photos, graphics, etc in various slide formats.
However, when this template is opened as a new
presentation or applied to an existing presentation, the
guides are back at 0.

Is it not possible for the guides to be part of the
template... or will the users have to set up these guides
each time they use the template?

The guides are temporary and do not move with a template or a presentation.
You will need to include instructions to the users on how to create and
position the guides. You might include a "setup slide" with the template
that contains the instructions and has drawn lines where they need to put
guides before they insert additional slides and add objects. The last part
of the instructions on the "setup slide" would be,
"For documentation purposes only. Delete this slide before you save your
presentation."

Which version of PPT? The guides stick to the presentation here (2000 and
it was this way in 97 as well)
IOW, they're presentation level settings, not application level ones.

It strikes me that if you saved a presentation as POT and included slides,
then based a new presentation on it as Presentation instead of as Design, it
might work nicely. But in testing, I find that I can't GET any new designs
added to any of the likely folders to show up AS designs.

Foo. Anybody want to take a swing at me with the cluestick?

HEY! That's "cLue" not "cue".

Oops. Yer right about a saved presentation. I double checked too and it
didn't "seem" to work in my test. And I actually knew better too. I guess
my java IV hose got a kink in it,

DANGER DANGER DANGER WOOP WOOP WOOP DANGER DANGER DANGER
or I had View > Guides turned off.

Ah. Well that'd do it fer sher!
But I've also tested using a pot file, adding guides, saving as template,
and then opening a new presentation and applying the template, and the
template does not keep the guides.

Ditto that. That's what I mean by "presentation-level" setting.
By the way, I save new templates to C:\Documents and
Settings\Sonia\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates and they show up in the
Task Pane in PowerPoint 2002. In PowerPoint 2000 they show up under the
"General" tab.

Templates, that's one thing. I mean Presentations (ie, in 2K, File, New,
click the Presentations tab or in 2K+2, choose File, New, watch it do
nothing, wonder what you did to deserve this, stare at it a while, the bulb
goes on, click General Templates, then whew click Presentations are we glad
this is new/improved/easier?)

Either way, you get a presentation with a template AND content - that's
slides to you'n'me, kiddo.

If the slides are already in the POT, you're cookin' - and since the guides
goes wit' da slides, it should allow you to create a template that
automatically preserves the guide settings.

Only if I put one of my own POTs amid the provided ones in this folder (this
is back in 2K, btw) it never shows up on the List of the Blessed. Can't
choose it, can't use it. Can't figure out why.
