I currently have Guideplus version 1.0.0.38 which came with my
AIW9700pro. I read in another forum that someone has version 1.0.0.44.
When I run the Guideplus update wizard it tells me I have the latest
version and no update is required. Is there in fact a newer version??

I have a 9600 AIW, I would not worry about it though. As long as it
correctly updates your channel listings.
 
I do not know what version I am running however the selections I am
offered listings wise I dont get a accurate listing. My list is
dead on over at www.zap2it.com

Same here. The "best fit" of the 5 line-ups offered doesn't show any
channels that I don't get, but it omits several that I do.
