I can't seem to enable the guest account. I've enabled the user account, and
enabled the account in the group policy editor, but it doesn't show up on the
logon screen.

Am I missing something?

Windows Vista Beta 2 Build 5384

I don't think the Guest account works yet. In fact, I don't recall if it
worked in any builds prior to this one. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't put
a whole lotta time into it if I were you.

I got it working. I was really odd though.

I used lusrmgr.msc to enable the account, which seemed to work ok. I didn't
get any errors or anything. What was odd was that when I went into "User
accounts" in Control Panel, I had 2 Guest accounts listed, one was enabled,
and the other was not. When I enabled the account that was disabled, the
window refreshed, and only one account was then listed, and it was enabled.

I logged out, and lo and behold the guest account showed up on the login
screen!

Good question. I don't remember. I installed it on a partition on which I
had Windows XP 64, but whether or not I upgraded that to Vista, I don't
recall. I believe it was a clean install though. Is there an accurate, easy
way to tell?

To get info on whether you have 32-bit or 64-bit check out the Control Panel >
System page, the page that gives your Windows Performance Rating right below
the Memory amount. Not sure yet about a clean/upgrade flag, I guess you could
check whether you have the accounts still that you had before you installed
Vista,
or if you installed any toolbars and if they are still there?

I had the Guest account already enabled in XP when I upgraded to Vista beta2,
in XP the Guest account was pretty much a must for me. In Vista beta2, giving
Standard User a try. The ACS is interesting...

Look for a folder called "Windows.old" in Vista. If you have this folder,
you upgraded. To find out what version of Vista you currently have
installed, click on the Start orb and type "winver" in the search space.
