Grow/Shrink animation query

I'd like to 'grow/shrink' an arrow in powerpoint, KEEPING ONE END of
the arrow FIXED. For example, I want to show the increasing water-
level in a tank as it is filled, or decreasing level as it is drained.
(The regular grow/shrink in powerpoint affects both ends of the
arrow.)

I am currently drawing several arrows of different sizes and animating
them one-after-another (with alternate fade/appear) but it gives a
jagged feel to the animation. I am sure there is a better way out
there but several hours of searching has been futile.

Please let me know if there is a continuous/smooth solution to this.

Thanks

1. Create another shape of the same size.
2. Align top edge of one to the bottom edge of the other.
3. Group the shapes.
4. Set the fill and line to none such that one of the shapes is not visible
to the eye.
5. Apply the grow animation to the shape.

Now one of the edges will remain rooted while the other grows.

Another similar method
Draw the arrow then cut and paste special as a png file
Select the crop tool and drag the lower crop handle to make the png twice
as tall (note the visible shape wont change just the crop handles). Some
guides will help you get the size perfect. Animate this shape.
