Grouping of File Types in Explorer

I have found that .ico files are being listed in Explorer as ACDSee 6.0 Ico
Image.

I installed this software with a digital camera which I no longer possess.
So I would prefer that it be grouped under some other heading. However, I
find that Windows Picture and Fax Viewer cannot open it nor can Paint or
Microsoft Picture It!

Perhaps it would be better if it were just grouped as ICO File.

1. How do I change the groupings different file types are listed under in
Explorer.
2. How do I remove programs from the list of "open with" for specific file
types?

open a window in Explorer or My computer. Go to Tools - Folder Options -
File Types. Scroll down until you find ICO. Click on it and then click on
Change just to change the file it opens with or Advanced to make other
changes.
Just be sure to jot down whatever the settings are in case you need to go
back & restore them.

Thanks, Bill

I tried that but while it changes the program that the file opens with, it
doesn't change the heading under which the file is grouped.

I assume that this is registry setting but couldn't find it. Eventually, I
solved it by opening ACDSee and changing the file types that this program
opens by unchecking the type .ICO.

All was restored
