Hi, I am fairly confortable using the group policy editor in XP Pro, but I
want to know why when you set a policy it effects all users including me the
administrator?...I would like to be able to change things for specific
users, does anyone know how to do this?....Thanks rick

Because you are too cheap to buy server. If you want a server you need to buy one. Else everyone would buy XP home and use it as a server if it wasn't crippled. Pro is just slightly less crippled. (Home is so crippled it can't even be a server's client).

The local group policy applies to all users of a machine. For the per user settings these are applied to each user. They are not per machine. Group Policy can't be used finer than all users. One needs Active Directory for that.

The registry entries can of course be added by hand but this is not group policy but the effect of group policy.

Make the changes in Current_User instead of Local_Machine.

Additionally, keep an eye on my web site, Win XP Utilities section. I'm
currently working on an application that will allow you to set the majority
of the group policy restrictions, on a per user basis.
