There is no Group Policy on an XP Home computer but there can be registry
entries that act like Group Policy in restricting the user. If you can logon
as an administrator you should do so and run your antivirus and spyware
programs after being sure that you have current definitions for all and also
in Safe Mode. If you can not logon as an administrator in XP Home you
usually can access the built in administrator account by booting into Safe
Mode and logon in with a blank password for the built in administrator
account which would be default unless it was changed since the install.
AdAware SE is a free for personal use spyware program if you do not
currently have one. See the link below for tips on protecting your
computer/network and other links on how to deal with viruses and spyware. If
you continue to have access problems let use know if you are able to logon
as an administrator or not, if you can at least open the command prompt, run
regedit from the run box, and your specific access problems along with
description of error messages.. --- Steve
