Mike

I have a new xp computer that is on the domain. the user
has permission to receive the group policy from a win
2000 server. the xp computer is using dhcp and is
getting the correct info. the dns server is working
properly. when i start the xp computer, in the
application error log i get this error:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1054
Date: 9/8/2003
Time: 11:14:24 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: WILMINGTONNCMGR
Description:
Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your
computer network. (The specified domain either does not
exist or could not be contacted. ). Group Policy
processing aborted.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

the user is logging onto the domain without a problem

can anyone tell me a) how to stop the error b) get the
group policy to take effect. thanks.

I would check out gpresult on your xp machine. That is a command prompt
function.

But if you remove all the group policies, does the computer logon okay?

Do you have any group policies that have a logon script or such that might
not work in xp?
