Hi

Are the any tools that can identify which group policies are being applied to an object, and which policy is taking precedence?

I have tried changing the password lenght (to 4 characters foir testing) on the Domain Policy but I still get a message stating that a policy is in effect and the password is too short.

thanks in advance

Dave

You can use gpresult on the client to see which policy is taking effect.
There is allso GPMC (Group policy Management Console), which givess you
better (graphical) overview of your policies.

You have to wait some time before policies take effect.

If your clients are on XP, you can also 'RSOP.msc' (Resultant Set of
Policy).

P.S. Your issue is quite interesting cos password policy is actually domain
wide. i.e. only the policy specified at the domain level takes effect, they
will not be over-written by other (OU) policies.

Has anyone come up with the reasoning behind this - I'm
seeing the same thing - I've an empty root, single child
domain structure - the password policy was set in the
root domain - I needed to remove the password complexity
rules in order to utilize a voicemail integration
application for Exchange - I've removed the policy,
forced replication - after two days the password
complexity rules are still in place.

I've run RSOP and it doesn't show the policy rules in
place at all but still can't change the passwords to meet
the requirements of the app. Not sure what else to do
here. I'm stumped.
