First off ... please let me know if there is a better place to post this.
I'm having problem with the consistency of my group policy folder
redirection of the start menu ( or any other redirect ). I have two pc's
here; one's running 2000 and the other xp. The 2000 box is redirecting the
start menu everytime. If I change the policy to point to another location
and log back in, that change is reflected accurately. Next I tried it on an
XP box. I can't even get it to take on the policy in the first place.
I did a gpresult /v on each pc and the results are drastically different.
The 2000 box references the group policy folder redirection information
accurately. The XP box says N/A under folder redirection. Where do I go
next to figure out why this is happening? I'm using the exact same login on
both machines.
I do notice that they are picking up their group policy from two different
DCs. And the one that is failing is picking up from a remote DC connected
through a VPN tunnel. If I log onto that server and access group policy
from there, it is correct and up to date with the local server. Is there a
way to force it to pick up from a different server? Does it really matter?
Thanks,
Andrew
