I am working with a company that has over 150 users and
run WIN 2000 and XP Pro.

I have a group of 6 computers that share a local printer
and are connected to the network. How can I setup the
computers so that regardless of who logs onto the network
the local printer is default. Currently the only way I
know of is to change the users setting when they first
log onto one of these machines. I'd rather not have to
help change all logons to default to that printer when
using these select 6 computers.

Thanks for any and all help.

I didn't gather from your query how they shared the
printer. Do they use a printer sharing device, or is it
locally connected to one machine then shared out for the
others to use, or is it a TCP/IP printer?

If it is shared on one machine (even a server) for others
to use and you have to log on as each user to add a new
printer and have to select network printer, then you can
use the method below:

You can logon as administrator, add a new local printer,
but in the process you want to create a new port instead
of using LPT1 or something. When you create the new port
specify the name as the UNC of the printer
(\\hostname\sharename). Then when anyone logs on to that
computer, the printer will already be defined since it is
defined as a local printer.

I hope this helps!
