Mr Pounder

Not received an update since 1.11.04.
Little concerned.
Anybody else having this problem.

Cheers

Steve

Slow virus week.
I would not worry.
It is not even a full week since the last update.

This week Avast! updated three times.
It's just an information, I don't want to start an AV war :-)

So Grisoft is letting our computers be attacked by who knows what??
It's just a question, I don't want to start an AV war ;)

I don't know, I wasn't there, if I was there I was sleeping,..., I
surrender! ;-)

I'm guessing they're gearing up for the public release of the free v7.

Getting worried again now.
But not enough to go & buy Norton.

Perhaps they were just catching up with what AVG did weeks ago :-)

E-mail address, hopefully self-explanatory

Or ... Avast is just catching up to updates that the other AV makers
released long ago???

Or... Avast used the spare time to tweak their generic patterns or to fix
some false positives or to include some pseudo-viruses that shall show when
somebody steals their database or... There are dozens of possible reasons.

It would be a peculiar worry that led to that outcome.

I once renamed the volume label on C drive at a place where I was teaching,
which had Norton AV installed, before going home one evening. Got a phone
call from my director (a suit: only min experience w computers) early the
next morning, who was very worried. When she'd booted the computers, Norton
started wailing frantic alarms, and demanding she make immediate decisions,
all of which it communicated to her in frantic and cryptic language. From
her phone call, I didn't even really get what was going on. It wasn't until
I got there, with Norton's big face covering the screen, saying no Windows
for you, not until our wizard takes things in control, that I learnt that
the whole huge crisis had resulted from the simple rename of a volume label.

As to the OP's worry. Maybe a worry about boredom. Symantec is good for
giving people lots to do: lots of errors to investigate, and a slew of
problems to solve.

Dunno. I used to get quite a lot of warnings of various nasties when
on dial-up, but everything has gone quiet from NAV's POV now. (But
that doesn't mean I'm bored. :)

Maybe just the old Patterson's Curse/Salvation Jane dichotomy.
Some folk have problems, others don't.

Cheers, Phred.
