gridlines in foreground

I have a line graph and I wanted a certain range of the
plot area to be red (going across horizontally), so I
could see which entries were acceptable values for my
experiment.

I got that by adding two area series - a red series for
the max acceptable range, and a white series for the min
acceptable range. Now I have this nice red stripe going
across my graph, but how do I get the Y axis gridlines to
show up on top of those area series? (Especially the white
one!) The X axis "gridlines" are ok because I enabled
droplines.

I need to keep the fill of the min range, though, or else
the red series shows through.

I like the partial series procedure, but what if I don't
know what the Y axis ticks will be? Depending on the data,
they will change.

Are there Transparent properties I can use?

First, I'd use None for the fill of the min range, so the white area is
no longer obscuring the gridlines.

Second, I'd add a partial series in the middle of the chart, following
the procedure on this page:

You only need to do the gridlines which are hidden by the
colored band.

No, you can set up a stacked area chart. The bottom series (blank) uses
the min for its value, and the red filled series uses the difference
max-min.

If your axis uses Cross or Inside tick marks, they are drawn on top of
the filled area series. So don't use any markers for the dummy series,
just label the points.
