Grid 2

I hope not, me like GRID 1

Mentioned it elsewhere but I've just dicovered DIRT 2, been playing lots of that, it's great.

Better late than never eh? :D

And all for £3.74 worth of Steaminess.

Few more video's....

....and.....

GRID 2's cockpit cam was removed because of the technical limitations of current-gen consoles, Codemasters has stated.

Speaking to FirstLook, GRID 2 producer Vincent Muelle claimed that the removal of the cockpit cam, which has been present in almost all of Codemasters' racing games throughout this generation, "was a really big decision" for the team, but that its removal allowed Codemasters "to push other things in the game".

"If we just had to do this game for PC we obviously would have a cockpit cam," Muelle said, "but we only have so much power to play with [referring to consoles].

"We'd prefer to focus on the race experience, and that unfortunately lead us to make some difficult decisions regarding the cockpit cam."

Removing the camera view has let Codemasters enhance the game's graphics, Muelle claims.

"[Its removal] allows us to be able to push other things in the game, like with the visuals," he continued. "We've been able to extend point-to-point events, we've been able to add more cars to the track, and that's really pushing things forward. It's a good decision for the game and we don't regret it.

He added: "We have complete respect for those that use a cockpit cam, but we need to look at the whole aspect of the game."

Codemasters faced criticism from some fans following news of the camera's removal last year. But in a statement posted last August, executive producer Clive Moody claimed that "only 5 per cent of Codemasters Racing game players ever used the in-car view".

"We certainly don't want to alienate any of our fans we want to deliver truly exciting features that 100% of our players will enjoy," he continued.

"Videogame development is always about trade-offs and in this case, taking the hard decision to lose the in-car views for 5% of our players (and remember we still have bonnet cam and bumper cam, which many people with racing wheels use), is something we felt was more beneficial to everyone."

GRID 2 launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on May 31.

I usually use the view with the car's bonnet, I wonder if that is part of the cockpit cam view?

If it is then I'll probably pass on GRID 2.

They say only 5% of players use the cockpit view. I wonder how they obtained that figure? I didn't see any surveys. As usual, it's another big company wanting to sell their product and I suspect 5% was a figure they pulled out of the hat to try and justify their actions and they're probably lying.

From their wording it would also appear they consider consoles to be a more powerful medium than PC's. Maybe future consoles will be, maybe, but I'd lay odds a current top spec PC can knock spots off an Xbox 360 or PS3. Other consoles? They don't count, lol ;)

I thought the cockpit view was all views other than from behind the car but it's just the view showing all instruments, all the others are there, including bonnet view.

So I'd made the decision I wanted this game after all, it looks good. But I didn't fancy paying full whack for it so had decided to wait until it was reduced in price.

Then this evening Codemasters e-mailed me with a link to several sellers including Amazon and Amazon were selling it for £22.00 free postage 3-5 days delivery.

So I've ordered it :)

So far I'm a bit disappointed with it. Have only played 40 mins so far and I can't quite put my finger on why I think it's less than good but that's how I feel. Steam are offering it for £30 but I got it on Amazon, a hard copy, for £22. I should have realised for a new major release to be selling cheap from it's release date does not bode well.

It didn't recognise my Microsoft wireless controller on start, it has to be manually configured to work. You can't use the controller to navigate menus, only for gameplay. The narration in the game is amatuerish and patronising.

When I'm setting up my car and choosing, for instance, the livery, I can't actually see the changes I've made to the car. The menu itself is lacklustre and a little confusing.

But the main thing - the races and the car handling. This is quite good, a nice sense of speed, but the handling takes a little getting used to, you definitely have to take some time to get to know the handling and even on Very Easy setting I found it was common to lose control of your car.

All in all, so far, wish I hadn't have bought it but things may improve with some more playtime, we shall see. I paid £22 for this so I'm going to persevere a little bit more before giving up on it.

So far I much prefer GRID 1, in my opinion that is a fantastic racing game, I still play that six years down the line.

I've now spent a few more hours playing this and I'm enjoying it. After a while you get to drive a muscle car, I chose a Mustang, and it handles a lot better, much like the cars in GRID 1.

I've moved onto the 2nd stage, WRC racing, and it's really rather good.

I notice though that, as I mentioned previously, I only paid £22 from Amazon and now Steam have reduced the price from £30 to £23 which probably tells us it can't be selling that well.

And why isn't it selling that well? Probably cos the game has proved a little dissapointing. However, although it starts off a bit rubbish, after around 60 - 90 minutes gameplay the whole game changes from frustrating to really rather ejoyable so give it a chance before you write it off.

I will carry on playing GRID 2 but to be very honest I still prefer GRID 1.

This does look good. But I still haven't finished Dirt 2, or Showdown...

The original Grid was great. :)

I have finished DIRT Showdown but I haven't finished: GRID; DIRT 2; DIRT 3; NFS Hot Pursuit or Blur.

I like to have a choice :)

IMO GRID 2 is worth £23 but it will probably cost less than that soon, worth waiting for a price reduction.

Saw Grid 2 in Tesco for the PS3. Couldn't really get a sense of how good it is from the case and to be honest I havn't even googled it or watched the videos within this thread *can't whilst in work as they are blocked*.

I've got Grid 1 on the PS3 and I liked it but never went back to it as I started playing Gran Turismo/Grand Theft Auto. Is it worth picking up the PC version when it comes down in price? I remember the first game had a lot of good smached up effects where car body parts could come flying off. Far better thant Gran Turismo where the cars almost stay in perfect condition no matter what you do. However, I suppose more of the work went on realism on handling/looks for Gran Turismo.

I need to get another can of air duster from Graeme at Kustom as my system could do with a spring clean.
