Grey out cells

In a worksheet that I recently recieved had greay out
cells. Some of those cells have information in them and I
would like to access it and find out how to gray out cells
myself(like around forms and stuff). How does it work?
What area of help would help me in this area?
 
Select one of the cells, and use the Format > Cells menu option.
Look at the entries on the Font, Borders, and Patterns tabs.
