green screen

I looked at the moviemakers.net forum, and found a "solution". Someone says
to "use inverse video to get video in text, change the text, (now background)
to green, and make a clip of the text with video and a green background to
use for green screen". can some one simplify that? I mean, what's inverse
video?
 
that's a good question to post on the forum... all the geeks who do those
things hang out there.
