The key is to have your hands twitch and move the mouse every so often.
That servers two purposes; a sign of life and it deactivates the screen
saver. As for the eyes shut thing, turn your chair slightly so that
co-workers can't directly see your eyes. Most people who suspect you are
asleep but aren't sure won't invade your private space to verify. In my
current cube environment, I have to worry about people peeking over a cube
wall to perform a verification. So, I raised the height of the offending
cube wall with multitudes of my kids art projects! Where there is no will
there is a way. ;-)
Ahh, wisdom from a true expert. Gotta hand it to ya Mike,
that is some very clever thinking. Especially using the
kids artwork to keep the prying eyes out. When I worked in
another office area while they painted and remodeled our
offices, I was also in a cubby hole, the office supply
closet. I had a small desk, a phone and my computer, that
was it. People used to come in and out all the time to
get 'a' pencil, 'a' folder, and it drove me batty. I put a
folding screen around my desk to shut them out. Then I put
a sign on the screen that said "Quiet please, I'm
sleeping". Well..of course everyone had to "peek" in to
see if I really was, and when they saw I was not sleeping,
they figured it was a joke and stopped 'peeking'. I later
actually managed some pretty good naps in that closet. ;-)
