Grayscale in Powerpoint 2003 to Microsoft Word

I want to import one of my slides on a PowerPoint presentation as a
grayscale to a Microsoft document but am unable to determine how to do
this. Regardless of the fact that the PowerPoint slides on the left
of the slide are in color, when I copy and paste they come out dark,
not as grayscale or even as black on white. Is there a way to import
my slides, or a single slide, into a Microsoft Word document?

Nope, this feature was removed. If you have a copy of PPT 2000 around, it
lets you send to Word in black and white.

This is one of my pet peeves about PowerPoint, to be honest.

Only real workaround I know is to use something like Handout Wizard to build
your own handouts (http://www.mvps.org/skp/ ) or apply a grayscale color
scheme and tweak items as necessary.

Either that or use Acrobat and InDesign for the printing part. Print black
and white to PDF and then dump that into InDesign.

I'm so excited. I've just discoved that this feature works again in
PowerPoint 2010. Yay!

Here's how to do it:

1. Open PPT 2010
2. Open presentation
3. View | Grayscale (or black and white)
4. File | Share | Create Handouts | Create Handouts
5. Select Paste Link in the dialog and click OK.
6. Let 'er rip.

You can download the public beta of Office 2010 at
http://www.microsoft.com/office/2010/en/default.aspx It's solid, but I
still wouldn't recommend installing it on your production computer -- even
side-by-side with existing versions of Office is apt to cause problems.
Instead, install Virtual PC (free download from MS) or VMWare and install
Windows and Office beta on that. http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00819.htm has more
information about that.

I presume from your comments that this feature is not present on PowerPoint
2007.

Correct. It is not available in PPT 2002, 2003 or 2007. It was available in
PPT 95, 97 and 2000.

And as a followup if anyone's interested in this feature in 2010, you'll
want to break the links in Word to maintain the B/W or Grayscale state of
the thumbnails. Make that step 7. :-)

for some reason every time I open a ppt deck it's in B&W. I have to go
to view, change to color and then it's fine but why is the default now
B&W? thanks

Hm. Do you have high contrast settings in Windows?

Or maybe something else here:

PowerPoint appears in grayscale or black & white, b/w
