my task bars come up with gray fonts on gray background and are difficult to
read. How do I change this? I have already tried "properties-appearance" it
didn't work. Have you seen this before? Can it be fixed?

It has been my experience, that you have the wrong video driver. Sometime MS
miss identifies the video card. I would suggest to go to the manufactures web
site and download the video driver and install it.

How do I find out who the manufacturer is?

Google for and download "Belarc Advisor." Run it. It will return a great
deal of info about your hardware and software, including the video card
and monitor.

I ran Belarc Advisor. Cannot find where it lists a video card. this is what
is under "Display" :
NVidia Riva TNT2 Model 64 [Display adapter]
KDS Rad-5x [Monitor] (14.9"vis, s/n 7138TD002820, September 2001)
Is that what I need?

The "Display Adapter" is the "video card." It is inside the PC; it is
the translator between PC internal language and monitor language.

The "Monitor" is a "display;" it's your "screen."

Life would be unduly bland had we but one name for anything.

Sorry to have slowed you down...good luck, Sharon! :-)
