My hard drive crashed and I'm reconfiguring everything.
ugh. Remind me ... in Windows 2000 Pro how do I stop those
gray advertisement messages from popping up?
Thanks - Deb

Hi Deb. You really need to use a firewall as your experience shows you are vulnerable
to internet attacks by not having netbios ports blocked which also allow the messages
you are seeing. Either a free personal firewall such as Zone Alarm which is good for
novices, something like Sygate or Kerio for people who know a bit about tcp/ip, or a
hardware device such as a nat router that you can buy at Best Buy to connect to your
cable/dsl modem. Also be sure to install critical updates from the Windows Update
site. The Google toolbar is also tops for stopping other types of pop ups. See more
tips in link below. --- Steve
