Is it possible to convert a computer with 32 bit graphics to 86 or better
graphics,
and if so, how would you go about doing it.? This is a windows xp, 2003 model
with service pack 2. Manufacturer is hp. Thanks for any suggestions

The only way to 'improve' graphics is to change your present video card for
something newer.

The operating system, in your case WinXP w/SP2 has nothing to do with the
quality of your graphics. And, as far as I know 32-bit is the highest
quality available. What is the 86 you're refering to and where did that
number come from?

Plus, you will have to read the owner's manual to verify what kind of video
upgrade is even possible - just telling us it is an HP is meaningless.

Hi Jerry,
The Microsoft Visual Basic 2005, Microsoft MSDN 2005, and the Microsoft SQL
Server 2005, in the Express Edition, come as a bundle package. I have these
products on my machine. The first 2 installed fine. But the SQL Server stopped
during instalation with an error message ( unable to complete setup due to an
unexpected error.your system does not meet standard requirements. ) In the
imformation pages about this product, it is not compatable with 32 bit
graphics.
For the SQL Server, you must have 64 bit graphics or better. I have
registered the product on line and have the licence key, but cannot enter the
key in the product
because setup was not completed. see http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/
Some of the new products run on 86 bit.

My system is Hewlett Packard Pavillion a532xDesktopPC 2003. CPU~2101 MHz,
447 MB of memory Windows XP 5.1, AMD Athon (tm) 3000 +219 GHz of Ram.
also HP officejet 4215 all in one/printer-fax-scanner-copier-photosmart

I don't understand the message that you're seeing based on those
requirements. 32bit graphics should be more than adequate for this
software. If you have Service Pack 2 installed then your system meets the
minimum requirements listed here:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/express/sysreqs.mspx

Most Microsoft products include 2 free tech support incidents. You may want
to use one of them for this installation issue.

I went to the web page you listed below but could find nothing requiring 86
bit graphics. I do not use anything in the Visual Studio stuff so I am
unfamilier with what it is you downloaded and installed. You need to be more
specific as to where is this requirement for 86 bit graphics.

I did run across mentions of 32-bit and 64-bit Windows but nothing about
86-bit.

I have scans of this error message, also a saved log of the error on my
desktop.
It would be easier to send these to you or microsoft, rather than try to
explain
it. I have already explained it as best I can to my knowledge. I am using
the msdn
and the visual studio and like the product. I just don't use the sql server
because
of the setup problem. Is there a way for me to send the scans and error loge
to
to you. Thanks for your patience and willingness to help

Hi, Diana~
I thought you said you had resolved the issue? Apparently not if you have
not yet gotten past the error message so that SQL server can be installed.
Have you tried posting this question to the newsgroup for SQL server yet?

Links for those newsgroups can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/newsgroups/server/sql.mspx
Several other support sites listed here:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/support/default.mspx

Aside: MVPs are users helping other users. We have no association with
Microsoft other than using their products. I'm not very familiar with SQL
server but still find the installation error message rather odd. I hope you
are able to find the solution that you are seeking.

Yes, I have. They don;t understand the error either. They say the product
should
install on my system, but it does not. So, at this point I don;t know what
else to
do. The message specifys that my hardware does not meet requirements. That
is why I thought that if I could semd the log and scan to microsoft, they
could
better understand what happened. The msdn and visual studio work fine, and
are great products. I am open to any suggestions. I have read the help pages
provided, and they backup what you say, the product should install, but it
doesn't.
Thank you for your patients and help in this. If you find any anwers to this
at
microsoft, please let me know, in the mean time, I will explore the other two
parts of the product. The reason I said resolved, is because I am out of
answers

Donna, going back over your thread again I have to question the 86 bit
graphic message. Perhaps this message is not referring to graphics but PC
architecture?

There are currently two common architectures seen - x86 and 64bit. "x86" is
a notation for a set of hardware that can run, at best, a 32-bit operating
system. The newer 64-bit systems are becoming very common in the home and
business place. The 64-bit systems can accomodate 64- and 32-bit operating
systems. The x86 systems cannot run 64-bit based operating systems or
software. You may want to look at that error message again to see if it's
actually referring to architecture rather than graphics?

Also, since you've had no luck here or in the SQL newsgroups, I'm going to
again suggest contacting MS support directly. The links I gave you before
have information for contacting formal MS tech support. The same
information for contacting them should be in with the literature that
accompanied the Enterprise package as well. These are the people that would
want to see and that could make the best use of the saved error information
that you have on hand.

Good luck to you with this. I hope you get it "resolved" (fixed) so that
the product is installed and working.

I know what the problem was, a friend pointed it out to me. A problem with
my personal network conections was preventing it from installing. I am in the
process
of fixing it now. Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.

Great! Glad to hear that you finally have this moving in the right
direction.
