Hi guys, built me a PC recently, but having no end of pain with it. here's my rig, as i bought it:

AMD x 2 4400+
2GB RAM
300GB HDD
MSI 8600GT 256MB
Asus Mobo
500W PSU.

I mainly play Eve-online (running 2 accounts on 2 screens).

I got lots of stuttering, freezing, and most often - corrupted textures. Someone suggested the RAM on the card was shot, and for an extra £40 I could get a ATI 3850 instead.

That arrived this morning.

The corrupted graphics have gone and my fps is amazing. But I'm getting freezing still and this time the monitors are turning off, then back on again.

Can someone give me an idea as to what is going on?! GPU temps are really low (im using RivaTuner to manually have the GPU fan running @ 75% giving a under load temp of 50 degrees).

Any comments or ideas are welcome

oh dear. was just thinking about that.

it cost less than a tenner!! :(

how can i determine if it's that or not?

oh it was this 1 :

EV 500W 80mm Fan PSU - 20+4pin, ATX12V, 4x Molex, 1x Floppy - Retail Boxed

"ebuyers extra value range" should i be embarrassed?

Yes! :D

lol, sorry but looks like you've bought a turkey :(

You won't get a decent PSU for a tenner, it just does not equate.

Expect to spend around £60.00 for a decent PSU.

500 watts is about right for your machine, look at PSU's made by Enermax; Tagan; OCZ; Corsair; SeaSonic.

Not guaranteeing it will solve your problem but it certainly won't do any harm.

I would, however, gamble that it is what's causing your problem. Good luck.

er what he said and 60 squid should be your minimum you should be spending on a quality psu.. Its the heart and soul of any decent pc and your components should be getting nothing less than Stable power under load..

sound advice... belive me, acidic smoke isnt pleasent when it comes from your PSU..... i would know :D
