A friend upgraded to PowerPoint 2003 and now some of her graphics on slides
display with broad black arcs through them.

I have to believe this is a fairly common problem.

Anyone seen this before?

Thanks.

The first thing for her to do is to update to Service Pack 1. Have her go to
Help and click on "Check for Updates". She needs to follow the links until she
reaches the SP 1 update.

Anyone seen this before?

This is the first mention I've heard of it here.

What type of graphics are they? What format were they originally in and how
were they inserted into PPT?

Give this a try:

Would we call that a precho?
