I was thinking about upgrading my graphics card, but am not sure what to do
e.g.. removing the old card settings etc, can anybody help please?
Regards Tony
Well with all of the cards Ive had so far - it was simple. You take
out the old card after unplugging your PC. You have to unplug it or
turn it off from the power supply switch in back - not just the one in
front. Youll see a light go off on many boards. Many boards have this
little led that stays lit even when the PC is turned off reminding you
that there is still some juice in the board until you unplug it or
turn it off from the PS.
Then you just take the screw off and cable and and take it out.
Then you plug the new on in and screw it etc.
Then when you start your PC , itll probably ask you to insert the new
drivers or install a generic driver. Then you just install the new cd
that came with the card and install the new drivers.
Sometimes MS has drivers already for the card and will install those
drivers without you installing the CD drivers. Actually even if you
have the CD it best to look on the net - at the website of the
manufacturer of the card or chipset like Nvidia for the latest version
of the drivers and download and use those.
Sometimes - it gets more complicated. I havent used an ATI yet or the
new NVDA generation of cards and some people post about problems where
they had to erase , uninstall all vestiges of some older video card
drivers or other quirks in installing the new drivers and software.
And then set the resolution you want etc.
However you can always get on the net and ask.
Just keep your old card just in case your new one really screws up
your PC , so you can put the old one back and ask on the net for a fix
if you dont have access to another PC.
Usually its not that hard.
Im waiting for my ATI 9800 , its in transit.
