I have a MSI k7n2g series motherboard with 32 mb onboard graphics. I want
to upgrade to another graphics card but I don`t know if it is best to get a
dedicated 3d card or 2d/3d card. Also would I have to disable the onboard
graphics in anyway ?

I don't think they make dedicated 3d cards anymore, do they? It's not a
concern. In all modern motherboards that I'm aware of, you simply plug the
card into an AGP slot and the onboard graphics are automatically disabled.
(Not saying I'm a real expert in the matter....)

You have an AGP 8x slot on it, so you can add a very good card if your
system is worth it. You would need to go into the BIOS at startup to
disable the on-board graphics, which is done by pressing the appropriate key
when you start your PC (it should tell you which key on screen).

Which card you opt for will depend on a number of things; the PC you are
putting it into, your price range, and what you are going to use it for. If
it's a gaming card that you are after, and your budget can stretch to about
£130, then the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro has seen a dramatic drop in price over
the last couple of weeks. It is currently the second best ATI card on the
market, falling just short of the ATI Radeon 9800 XT.

Anyway, you would do best reading the following two articles before making
an informed choice:

All 3d cards also do 2d. And, yes, you should disable the onboard graphics.
Do you know if you have an AGP slot?
