I`m kinda lookin at a new graphics card and I`m stuck between 2. Without considering everything else, which is likely to be better?

128MB of 1.6ns GDDR3 memory
OR
256MB of 3.6ns GDDR3 memory?

Both have a 128-bit memory controllers/ width/ whatever the right term is.

Thanks

Kenny :)

It would help if we knew the rest, but if it was equal on all but the above - I'd go for 256Ram.

There isn't much point in having fast access to the graphics memory if it is being cached in the system ram (or worse, the swapfile!).

Which card is it, as I wouldn't base that as the deciding factor ;)

Well... the cards in question ae both Gainward 6600`s... the 128 version is the GT, the 256 is the vanilla. Clock speeds dont matter to me, as i`m gonna OC anyway, but i`ve been looking for a vanilla with 256GDDR3, and it looks like i`ve found it.

I'd suggest the 256 then, as I don't think that the memory speed will make such a difference if you are going to overclock it anyway.

well... because the 256 memory card has 3.6ns memory, would that not limit the OC I could put on it? Is the same (core) chip used for the vanilla and the GT? If so, the only benefit to the GT is in the memory...
