graphics card drivers

Not really a problem butI am using a Nivida Gforce 4 with
XP which works fine. Whilst doing a windows update I found
that the latest drivers could be installed for it which I
did. Once installed and machine rebooted, when opening the
Nivida control page I got the message "Catastrophic
Failure" so I rolled back to the previous driver and am
back to normal. I was wondering, just out of intrest, if
this is a known issue and if anybody has had a similar
problem.

I had a similar problem with my GeForce Fx. I screamed at
first, rolled back the driver to the previous version, no
problems there. Tried updating again, but no joy.
You will have to uninstall all you previous graphics card
drivers first, which sould bring your system back
to "Standard PCI Graphics Card". Then try installing the
new drivers.
Am I right in saying that the new drivers you downloaded
are ForceWare 52.16? If so, what i suggested will solve
ur problem. It seems to be a bug in that driver version
that it needs all previous versions uninstalled. If that
doesn't work, go onto the nVidia website and download the
latest version of ForceWare 52.16, and install then. But
make sure all previous driver versions are uninstalled.
 
I do not trust the video drivers in WindowsUpdate. They seem to be old if
you compare them to to ones on nVidia.

BTW: With the nVidia drivers installer, you do not have to un-install the
older versions. It seems to handle the install correctly, but the
un-install does not hurt.

I bought same one and had problems with it deleting task

bar and start buttin on windows. No clue why.
