I am looking for a simple graphic editor for pixel-size modifications : something like Ultimate Paint
but which would run with no trouble on WinXP (Ultimate Paint crashes on my PC on some specific
actions).

Pixia, Gimp, Vicman's photo editor are not what I am looking for.

Thanks in advance.

I've used ImageForge for this type of thing for years. It has a little
preview window which always shows a magnified view of the pixels under
the cursor, shows the color values under the cursor, etc. -

need special brushes and effects, though).

Thanks to all who answered.
I am sorry I haven't given enough details about what I was looking for : actually the software
should apart from the classic drawing features have :
- all picture size support (ToolBar paint support squared images up to 48x48)
- gif support (open and save) (Not supported by ToolBar paint nor ImageForge)
- easy color replacement feature : I mean if an image is composed of several colors among
which blue pixels, I would like to be able to change all the blue pixels in red in one shot (none of
the suggested software seems to support that ; Ultimate Paint has this handy feature)

Again thank you.

GIF support is still a problem with freeware, since Unisys still holds
patents in many areas for the compression used in GIF files (and they
require to be paid for distributing programs which include it). If you
cannot substitute PNG or JPG, which are widely used substitutes for
GIF, then you probably should look for properly licensed "cheapware"
which includes GIF support. By mid-summer 2004, those patents should
finally expire, and I expect that GIF will be legally available in
more freeware.

I believe that is supported in Imageforge (on the version I have, you
click twice on the eraser tool to get the color replacer). Won't do if
you absolutely need GIF though.

You are right.

It works partly. Actually, this feature, called "Color to color erase" in ImageForge, enables to
replace a color 1 with a color 2 when the cursor is above any pixel coloured with color 1.
Won't do if you absolutely need GIF though.

Thanks anyway Dan for your help and the explanations.
