Graphic color shift

While not specific to Frontpage... I'm saving a cleaned up simple .jpg logo
with about 8 different solid colors in it. When I put in specific RGB values
for the specific colored areas and then save as a .jpg or .gif, then re-open
in photoshop, the colors have shifted slightly...

Ideally I want to clean up the logo and then post the image into the website
and have the colors exactly as the designers intended the colors to be, not
slightly off...

what am I doing wrong...

thanks

check that you are in RGB workspace in PS not CMYK

I am in RGB, 8-bit colorspace in PS but still get a slight color shift after saving (level 10, Basline (Standard)

any other ideas??

dunno could be lotsa things. remember everytime you edit and save a jpg
you're losing some data...can you work with the original file in a lossless
format?

how bad is it? can you post the images side by side somewhere for
comparison? (like photobucket.com or something)

Thanks for the replies folks...

I'm aware of the jpg loss in compression, but was unaware there was a slight
color value shift. While minor, in most cases, just a couple of numbers off
(from a Green value of 91, to 90 or 89 for instance) I'm worried that my
client may be picky about this if they look close enough. Notice these are
solid colors, no gradation, so ideally, the posted web version should be of
the same values as the original logo that came from the graphic designers...

Here's a link to a bmp (original) version and the jpg saved version...

thanks!!

They both look good to me. However, why are you using jpg instead of gif?

well, I tried saving and posting as a gif and got similar color shifts, so I
thought I'd just use the jpg thinking it would be cleaner and more accurate..
Maybe that's flawed logic on my part... The shifting is very minor, not
noticable to the naked eye, at least not mine, but shifting nonetheless. I
suppose this is consitent with jpg loss though and I shouldn't be too
concerned correct??

To the average person, there is no discernable difference in the images.
You, the creator, are being overly critical and cautious because you're
looking at it with a different eye.

It looks good, IMHO, Hugh.

ok, that's sort of what I was thinking. I needed to make sure there wasn't
something else I could do to make it completely accurate.

Thanks again!! Great resource...

Hugh

And then it depends on the viewer's video card/drivers and monitor how the colors will be displayed.
