Graphic card is to not performing.

Hi I have a

AMD Athlon (tm) 64 Processor 2800+, 1,81 Ghz, 1GB RAM and aGeforce 6200 256
Mb DDR2 graphicscard.

My problem is that I am trying to play The first person shooter game "
Farcry" and the game is not running smoothly.

Once I installed it, it was running much better, but something seemed to
have happened..?

The specifikation of the machine in the game is telling me that i have a
high performance machine, but once trying to auto detect the settings in the
game, it is set to low performance.

Please enlighten me and tell me how to get my graphic card to perform as it
should.

A Geforce 6200 isn't a very powerful video card, not really
a good choice for gaming to begin with.

So what framerates are you getting?
You might have changed some in-game settings? If so, try
the defaults again, or manually reduce all the settings to
the least demanding options available, including resolution.

For that game you have a low performance machine, because
the video card is a primary bottleneck. Try it without FSAA
and AF, disable both of those in the game settings or in
your video card (Display Properties) settings.

I think there is also a further config file you can run to
change a few things, might be named
"FarCryConfigurator.exe", search for it on your HDD.

I had no problems playing Farcry on a PNY FX5600 Ultra.
 
FarCry requires a high end video card in order to play it on High Quality
settings. As you can tell from the price that you paid for your video card,
it is a slower, lower end card. Thus you need to play Far Cry on lower
video settings.

5600 Ultra was a high clocked midgrade card, it should be
capable so long as AF isn't set too high (since the FX5xxx
series had that handicap). 6200 is the low-end, it has GPU
and memory bottlenecks making it only competitive with other
low-end cards... it's the kind of card one chooses to get
just above integrated video levels of performance, not
reasonable gaming performance. To their credit, it can game
reasonably for what it is but given some game tweaking, a
FX5600U, FX5700, FX5900 are all faster. I've never put a
FX5200 (and there are several variants) against a 6200 but
some FX5200 might also be faster given the right game
settings (lower eyecandy).
 
That is the problem. I have paid 150 dollars for this card. I believe that
the shop have cheated me...

Quite possibly, but we dont' know what the market is like
there. What else could you have bought for 150? I mean
bought online instead of from a shop? Even in the US where
prices are relatively good, buying from a shop or even a
discount superstore is usually quite a bit more expensive
than online.

Im guessing you are in Denmark. In the US video cards are falling
fairly fast. You can get some really decent cards even less than 100
suddenly with rebates and very decent cards easily in the low 100s. If
you spend 200 or so you can get a very good card.

If you want to buy a system this is one of those rare times when you
can get a very very good system for dirt cheap prices. When Conroe and
M2s come out the prices will rise again for hardware thats widely
available but at the moment when lots of stuff has been on the mkt
before new stuff is introduced with a few amazing overclocking deals
---- now is the time to get your hardware. The big thing is DX 10
coming out next year which I defintely want to get, a DX10 video card
that is. So I wouldnt spend outrageous amounts on a SLI setup or
anything. Youll only lose your money quickly as the resale price
plummets.

In the US you can easily get a 6600 for 100 or so, 6800XTs and ATIs
that are good for gaming in the less than 100 to 150 range that are
better than the 6200.

The deals are so good I upgraded all my secondary systems to 9600 and
9600 XT cards , I was thinking of upgrading my 7800GT to 1800XT. And I
just bought some sempron 2800s to replace some old AMD 1600 and 1.4
Tbird systems. They work great by the way even for games. However Im
already thinking about another dual core Pent 805 D upgrade cause the
price is so good.

I have now purchased a Radeon 9800 XT. It should have no problems
performing.

A 9800XT isn't going to much of a performer for very long. Should have at
least picked up something that does DirectX 9.

It's not "fast" by modern standards but at least quite a bit
better than a 6200. It is DX9 though, isn't it?

I believe that the Direct 9 stuff isn't in hardware for a 9800XT... I could
be wrong though.

Definately not a bad card, but if someone is purchasing a new card there are
much better ones out there.
