I have an excel worksheet with data in the following format. I've never used
Excel for graphing so I'm not sure how to get the graph to look like I want.
I would like to have the data as a stacked bar graph with one bar for each
day. So the x-axis would be the date and the y-axis would have each 1 hour
time period on it. Any help with the options I should select is appreciated

Thanks,

Jason

The data looks like this:

Time 24-Mar-03 25-Mar-03
12:00-1:00 Crib Sleep Crib Sleep
1:00-2:00 Crib Sleep Crib Sleep
2:00-3:00 Crib Sleep Crib Sleep
3:00-4:00 Crib Sleep Crib Sleep
4:00-5:00 Crib Sleep Crib Sleep
5:00-6:00 Crib Sleep Crib Sleep
6:00-7:00 Crib Sleep Crib Sleep
7:00-8:00 Crib Sleep Crib Sleep
8:00-9:00 Awake Crib Sleep
9:00-10:00 Awake Awake
10:00-11:00 Awake Awake
11:00-12:00 Awake Awake
12:00-13:00 Awake Awake
13:00-14:00 Awake Awake
14:00-15:00 Awake Awake
15:00-16:00 Nap Nap
16:00-17:00 Nap Nap
17:00-18:00 Awake Awake

To create a chart that shows total hours of each activity for each day:

Change column A to a time, e.g. 1:00, instead of a start and end time
Use the 'unpivot' technique described by John Walkenbach:
http://j-walk.com/ss/excel/usertips/tip068.htm

to restructure your data into columns for time, date, and activity:

Create a Pivot Chart from the restructured data, with Date in the row
area, activity in the column area, and Count of Activity in the Data area.

There are pivot table instructions and links on Jon Peltier's site:
