best thing I've found was HIDOWNLOAD from http://www.hidownload.com/
works for streaming REAL, ASX, everything. Plus it's EASY to use
I tried all sorts and they drove me nuts til I ran across this one
I believe the lite version is free or use the pro evaluation

I downloaded and installed this, the lite version, but I cannot understand how to use it.

I tried choosing a song from the lists in it, and told it to download it, but it is just sitting there, waiting, like.

What I really wanted is a streaming media player with recording function, so I can listen to streaming media stations and choose to
record a song I want to save. Like having a radio and a tape recorder.

But this program doesn't even have a Play function, there is no way to hear anything from it.

Have I missed something? Is it supposed to be used together with another program, like a media player?

It sounds like what you want is a program like Polderbits
http://www.polderbits.com/. However, this is payware. But, I'm sure that
there was a freeware version of it.

Good luck on finding it!

I found settings in HIDOWNLOAD for setting up a MMS player and a realplayer, but I still cannot figure out how to use the
combination.

The natural way to use it seems to be to use Winamp to choose a radio channel, and tell HIDOWNLOAD to record the songs I hear
in Winamp. But HIDOWNLOAD is organized the other way around, like the user is supposed to first choose the song, without
hearing what it sounds like, then download it, and then use a mediaplayer to listen to it.

Has anybody actually got this HIDOWNLOAD program to work?
If so, please describe how you use it.

By the way, how can songs be downloaded before or after they have been played from a streaming media channel, or when the
listener chooses to, I thought they had to be recorded WHILE they are transmitted.

Hi Roger,

This is totally OT, but I'm just curious why you changed your line-length
setting. It was perfect before, but now I have to either manually wrap it
or scroll horizontally to read your posts...your's are the only posts that
require me to do that. If that's what you want to do, hey no big
deal...I'm cool with it. I'm just wondering why you did it, lol.

I used the Noworyta mail and newsreader for a long time, but changed to Xnews a few weeks ago.

I have not found any settings for line length in it, yet.
Advice from other Xnews users welcome.

I just use the default (for my version), where the text wraps at column 76.

Here's where I found the settings...

Special - Setup XNews - Compose - Wrap text at column [76]

You're using a much older version! Your User Agent says you're using
4.06.22. I'm using 5.04.5. So the settings may be a bit different on your
reader.

I have is set so too, but it has no effect.

Aha, time to search for the newer version.

I found many different versions, trying the test version from
xnews.newsguy.com now.

None of the versions I have tried wraps automatically though, I have to
click the Rewrap button in the compose window.

I've never really paid too much attention...but I don't think any of the
messages are automatically wrapped. It's just that everyone else has a
decent line length setting. You're the only one (I normally encounter)
who doesn't, so I have to horizontally scroll to read your posts.

So I think it's more a matter of correct line length (which most people
seem to have) and less a matter of automatic word wrap. So if you get
the correct line length in your newsreader, people will be able to read
your posts more easily.

SDP. And for Real media, Real7ime Converter. (Note: I haven't yet tried
HiDownload.)

Check around, because there's definitely a way to do this. My text wraps
just fine when composing or reading.

You use a newer version of Xnews than I do. I wonder if that's a new
feature, or I just haven't learned how to do it. Not that it matters...I
rarely run into messages that need to be wrapped.

I think wrapping in the compose window and wrapping in reader window are
two different functions.

It says in some docs that adding
ViewerWordWrap=1
to the display section in Xnews.ini will wrap the text in the reader
window. I have added this but not checked if it works yet.

In the compose window there is no automatic wrapping in my Xnews, but I
have learned to use the Reformat button.

I tried newer versions, but lost the popup question: No new messages, do
you want to close this group? I liked that function, so I changed back to
an earlier version.

There is an option in Xnews.ini that says "ShowPopUp=1"
maybe this controls the popup message, I have not checked this either.

Hmmm...that's interesting. I'll try it the next time I get a message with
overly long line lengths and see if it helps.

BTW, your messages are fine now. No more horizontal scrolling. :)

That is because I use the Reformat button.

I have done a test now. The reader window wraps automatically, to the
reader window size I use, after I added that ViewerWordWrap=1
to the ini, so that seems to work as it should.

The compose window does insert a hard line end at the end of the window
on a very long line, but not at 76 as it should. So I have to continue to
use the Reformat button when composing a message.
