i have a geforce 6800 go 256mb and i am using the 72.30 drivers from windows
update (because there the only ones that work for me).
The problem is that Dxdiag is saying i have no video memory.

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6800
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce Go 6800
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C8&SUBSYS_107C1734&REV_A2
Display Memory: 0 MB
Dedicated Memory: 0 MB
Shared Memory: 0 MB
Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Generic Non-PnP Monitor
Driver Name: nv4_disp.dll
Driver Version: 6.14.0010.7230 (English)
DDI Version: 9
Driver Attributes: Final Retail

I think this may be why i dont get aero glass and games run choppy.
Anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance.

Your display adapter is on the list of 'cards' supporting Vista,

<http://www.nvidia.com/page/technology_vista_home.html>

but not on the list of adapters supported by the Nvidia drivers for
Vista Beta 2,

thanks for the reply, but other geforce 6800 go owners have it working fine
with aero and everything

How did they get it up and running?
I am not the smartest guy around, but if I KNOW that someone got the same
piece of hardware running, I would duplicate what they did...if that did not
work, I would say where I got stuck so people could try to help..

Looks like you have a laptop. The laptop manufacturer is responsible
for the drivers for his product.

Do the "other geforce 6800 go owners have" the same laptop model you have?

What happens when you install the 88.61 Nvidia Vista Beta 2 drivers from the
Nvidia Web Site? Or what happens if you have Vista search for drivers on
your system drive?
I ask this since 72.30 drivers are pretty old and AFAIK were never intended
for Fista Beta 2 which did not exist at the time they were released.

i have tryed all the other vista drivers, but i get error code 43 (Windows
has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43))

the others that have it working do not have the same make and model.

im on a FSC amilo m3438g

Have you checked to see if their are any recent updates to your MOBO BIOS?
What driver are you using when you try and do the update?
What driver release does Vista try and install if you ask it search for a
driver on your system disk partition?

Hi Thanks spooner I was nearly going back to xp when I came upon your post I
also have a 3438 amilo and it was working on beta 2 but I did a clean install
of rc1 as beta 2 had saved all my old windows xp and therefore there was not
enough space to install I thought that it would be ok, but had your problem
at least now my dvd works and the screen is a reasonable resolution, but I do
not get aero
Regards Dave

Hello spoons,

you're on a fsc amilo m3438g, aren't you? Although the nvidia card is
completely fit for vista (3d and aero included) it will not have those
gimicks.

I've got the same laptop and tried it with vista beta2. Allways got error
code 43! With xp driver ver. 72.30 i had the nativ resolution of the display
but no graphical gimicks at all... The same situation is given after
installation of vista rc1. The driver that came with vista stops with code
43. And no xp driver is provided via win update...

What i think is that there fujitsu siemens must do some work concerning the
video bios. Ok maybe concerning the driver too. But the driver by nvidia
should allready have full functionality.

So we only can wait til vista release and fsc coming down from its socket...
don't panic.

Amilo Owners!

It's Fujitsu Siemens! I was trying to install WMC but gave up (it just
wpouldn't install either over the top of FS XP or from scratch) and then
tried RC1 - I get the same Code 43 error and limited basic VGA graphics.

I'm also having problems with the VIA RAID tool (press tab on the initial
boot screen to enter the RAID bios setup) - I added a second 80GB disk to the
3438G which after much grief works fine (RAID 0) - unfortunately the Windows
reporting tool fails on start up and seems to have affected the registry as I
get the same problem after uninstalling the Windows tool!

Nothing of any use appears to be on the FS web site
(www.fujitsu-siemens.com) re VIA or Vista so no obvious sources of help. I'm
reasonably sure FS "tweak" their systems as I can't seem to upgrade the VIA
system or the graphics system.

Come on FS get your finger out!!

Amilo Owners 2,

Vista RC2 seems to solve a lot of problems I was having with my 3438G
(http://download.windowsvista.com/preview/rc2/en/download.htm). I now have
Aero Graphics (Vista's latest Nvidia driver installs with Directx 9 and
without error code 43!), VIA RAID and REALTEK sound are all working. The
only problem is the Synaptic Mouse pad which claims incompatibility but just
click "run programme" and it seems to work ok (I'm running V5.9).

My Windows Experience Index comes in at 4 (scoring range 1-5.9:
http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=37).

Mostly it's looking good!

If you download the RC2 iso file use BurnCDCC (freeware:
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/utilities.html) to create your DVD (I
upgraded from RC1 and there's no iso burn option in Vista it seems).

Now to do some exploring...
