I gave in to ebay (£21!) and bought a USB GPS device for my laptop, and I wondered if anyone else has one of these and could tell me what they are like?

I'm keen on the idea of using it for long journeys and playing round with the programming software for it. They looks like clever little things, and for twenty quid I couldn't resist!

It does, but I don't know what yet - should arrive tomorrow :)

if it comes with mapping software then you've got yourself a real bargain

Hopefully it means no more 'discussions' in the car about which way to go! (I'm always right, but he'd never admit it...!)

;)

I seen one in Maplin and it was £25 with software. Never used though so can't say that how good it will be. Waiting for Ian's review on this.

I want one of them ... with the screen's and voices and stuff lol ... coz i hate looking at maps ... when it's just a simple button away !!! I was looking at them for £400 around that ... was gunna buy one for parents lol Still might do :)

I just got one - it's a TomTom Go 300 (the new version of the TomTom Go) with built in Bluetooth...

Top gadget!

Gets you traffic information, weather information, customisable voices, colours... etc etc. Redirects you if you go the wrong way too!

Oh not forgetting the national speed camera database either... get within 300 yards of a gatso or an overhead camera (or any other fixed position one for that matter) and it will "MOOOOO" at you!!

£339.99 delivered.

Don't twist my words!! I dont speed (unless it's a long straight very empty road and i'm late for college...;) )

It's just nice to have a warning so you can get WELL below the speed limit as you go past.

we've all wondered slightly over the speed limit when were late, and if you take the same route everyday as i do you know where the cameras are ;)

Slightly over... Seeing how fast your car goes in 4th gear before you have to change up is a fun way to wonder slightly over 8-)

Once I speed up and GPS was telling me that there isn't any camera in that area but caught by Mobile Unit and have to pay £60 fine. Was slightly over the speed limit of 40Mph. After that... I am extra cautious.:(

Yes the Tom Tom Go is a good piece of kit, but it does rely on the general public to keep the database up to date on where any new cameras have been put up, and that normally takes a couple of weeks before the updates are ready to download..onto your SD card..

It does not take into account mobile speed camera's as they can be moved and deployed to different locations within minutes...so its certainly not foolproof..
Got friends who have come unstuck this way after thinking they would never get another speeding ticket and points...:(

So anybody thinking of purchasing the Tom Tom GO with this in mind should just buy the unit as a very good GPS Navigator and count the speed camera database as a bit of a bonus, and that way you will not get any surprises...:D

Mio instead of TomTom

Has anyone used the MIO units instead of Tomtom GO?

They seem to be much better value (Esp the 269) which is roughly the same price as the TT, but includes all the european maps rather than just major roads.

Would be interested if anyone has one and what they think of it
