Hi,

Does anyone have a suggestion for a GPS locator I can put in/on/under my
mid-tower PC?

I'm guessing it's going to have trouble signalling if it's inside, but
maybe someone's made something that uses the power cable for an antenna or
something?

Thanks!

Can you specify WHAT it is you expect this device to actually do? Simply
tell you where the computer is when you look at the screen or is it supposed
to secretly track it in case it is stolen? Adding a GPS to a computer is
about as simple as it can be if it is the former (look at
http://www.delorme.com/earthmate/ ) but if you are seeking some sort of
Lojack theft tracking device for a computer I've never heard of one. I have
the new DeLorme Earthmate GPS and it works fine on my system from inside my
home.

I'm looking for the lo-jack one.

I spent a lot of time backing things up, and keeping my system firewalled,
but then someone just crow-barred my front door and boosted my system off
my desk (backup CD's and all).

BTW, even if I had offsite backup, I still have a computer out there with
lots of code I was developing, possible passwords in cache files, etc...

I suspect that you will be out of luck in your search -- at least unless you
have tons of money to throw at the problem. It will be WAY cheaper to
install a removable hard drive enclosure on your computer, install a stout
wallsafe to keep the drives in when you are away, and have a good quality
monitored alarm system installed on your home. Oh yeah, you still need to
keep the offsite backups, nothing else will cover you in case of fire and
natural disaster -- when I was doing software development my most paranoid
client demanded that backups be kept in two locations with one of them being
a bank vault.
