Can I connect my etrex to a notebook and (in real-time) have the track log
points saved into a table and displayed on a (continuous) form.

Has anyone done this - I have seen some questions about this but not seen
any workable answers.

Cheers

Mick

I have no idea what an etrex is, but in general, you need an output to
either a serial, or more likely a USB port. Ask the manufacturer of your
device if he can provide this output. If so, and it will output plain text,
you should be able to click in an Access text box and deposit your data.

Hi

Bad news - cant be done. Sorry.
1st you would need to walk around with a laptop in your hand to be able to
autoupdate the access DB.
2nd There is no auto export from garmin and access can not create an
exportable file within the garmin layout

The extrex comes with the garmin programme (you need to register in line to
get the export facility). Best bet would be to store to the track log and
then save as CSV then use access to import the data. You can simply set up a
auto-import if you want.

Makes me think back - I used to teach garmin courses (back in the day, LoL)

Anyway - sorry but can't be done to track the track log - BUT - you can to
"non" track-log waypoints dont forget the even though when exported you get
the Lat and Longs of both with the track log waypoints they are no
independent - but other way points are which is why they could be exported).
But this still needs a good bit of skill with vba and to be able to create a
small dll to generate the csv. To me it would seem a waste of time but you
could create something - there may be a market for it - no one is doing this
at the moment.

Good luck
